Engagement Session Adventure Through Downtown Detroit

There’s just something electric about downtown Detroit. The skyline, the art, the energy—it all sets the perfect stage for an engagement session that feels bold, urban, and totally unforgettable.

For this session, we spent some time at the Dequindre Cut. If you haven’t been, it’s a below-street-level greenway with an ever-changing gallery of graffiti and street art. It adds texture, color, and character to every shot. Plus, it’s usually not too crowded, which gives couples room to be themselves without feeling like there’s an audience.

We wandered down to Hart Plaza. The sculptural architecture, wide-open spaces, and iconic views of the Renaissance Center gave us a more modern, dramatic backdrop. It’s a great contrast to the earthy vibe of the Dequindre Cut and gives a session this gorgeous range of moods.

No trip to Detroit is complete without a stop that includes the people mover.

We spent some time on the Detroit Riverwalk. Tempestuous skies lit the city up in the background. There’s something peaceful about this spot. You get the skyline and that wide-open sky that makes everything feel a little bigger and a little more magical.

Engagement sessions like this one really show what Detroit has to offer. It’s got edge and elegance, all wrapped up in one walkable downtown. If you’re thinking of doing your engagement photos in the city, don’t sleep on these gems.

The Renaissance Center looms over the entire area and a couple shots with the famous landmark are always in order.

Of course, Michigan weather is famously fickle. On this day mother nature had a sudden rainstorm in store for us. We ended our night after being drenched.
